Sandwich Shop Magic

Im going to be honest, this shoot was 100 percent influenced by my kids and where they ask to eat lunch on a weekly basis… well them and the fact that this little sandwich shop is run by what I consider to be a genius.

It is the simplicity in perfection on which the little shop is ran is what intrigues me the most. Being in a small town has it challenges, but the owner has managed to capture the hearts of the town with a sandwich. Actually lots of sandwiches, freshly made and served with a pickle.

Add on a freshly made side item or a bag of chips and you have just set yourself up for one of the most delightful lunches that you’ve had since childhood… when mom making you a sandwich for a hot summer days lunch was all it took to make things right in the world.

You see what I love about what this little sandwich shop has created is that she didn’t have to reinvent the wheel, have some show stopping menu spread or massive operation to bring The Pickled Cafe to life. She offers something most of us overlook or don’t take the time to make for ourselves and elevates it with sandwich making perfection and a smile to have a great day.

Why did my kids inspire this shoot? Well the above photo should explain it. After sitting down and polishing off a plain turkey sandwich on Sourdough (that they say is better than ones from home :) they know they can talk their dad into visiting the dessert case that on any given day is stocked with a fresh cheesecake, mini bundt cakes and whatever else Savannah had up her sleeve that morning. And while I will admit to maybe not saying yes to ordering dessert at lunch at most restaurants, you will never find me saying no here.

Everything about the cafe feels fresh and full of life. You know that you are not only supporting a small local business, you are looking her right at her with a smile on her face as you both thank each other for the experience.

I will finish off this little love letter to my local sandwich shop by adding that on a lot of food photography shoots we have to dress up the product a bit to really give it that extra mouthwatering aspect for the consumer, but all I had to do here was slightly set back the top bread slice to show you all the goodness that is piled on to every sandwich. I dare you to eat it in one sitting, I know I can’t.
